State Minister, the Governor of Aden, Abdulrahman Sheikh met Wednesday with Amira Kdeir, the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mission and the Committee’s Political Adviser Baha Hassan.

He discussed with them a number of issues related to the health and humanitarian situation in Aden, as well as the conditions of those wounded in the Houthi escalation across various front lines.

The meeting discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the local authorities and the ICRC, including the possibility of the Committee supporting hospitals and health facilities receiving those wounded in the Houthi escalation.

The discussions also covered the provision of available medical supplies and other forms of assistance that could contribute to improving the level of healthcare provided to them.

Governor Sheikh praised the humanitarian and medical role played by the International Committee of the Red Cross, its contributions to supporting the health sector and strengthening the humanitarian response, and its efforts to care for and monitor the conditions of those wounded in the war and people affected by its consequences.

He affirmed the local authority’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the ICRC and its readiness to provide all necessary facilities for its humanitarian and medical teams and programs.

For her part, the Head of the ICRC Mission stressed the importance of continued coordination with the local authorities and health institutions in Aden, and of exploring possible areas of intervention in line with the Committee’s mandate and the needs of the health and humanitarian sectors.
