Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries Salem al-Soqatri held discussions today, Tuesday, in Rome, with the Pandemic Fund team, including Yemen Project Coordinator Gabrielle Taylor, on the progress of the pandemic project being carried out in the Ministry's animal health sector.

The talks held on the sidelines of the FAO global conference on applying the 'One Health' approach in agricultural food systems, held from September 21-23, 2026.

The two sides underscored the importance of the project in establishing and upgrading veterinary service infrastructure, including veterinary laboratories, quarantine facilities, and surveillance centers at both the central and governorate levels.

It also focused on enhancing veterinary staff skills in laboratories and surveillance, and activating disease surveillance for trans boundary and zoonotic diseases at the directorate and governorate levels.

The pandemic fund team also confirmed their willingness to cooperate with the ministry in upcoming regional fund projects, especially regarding support for completing institutional development and building capacities to combat epidemic diseases, pests, and plant diseases that threaten public health, food systems and food security.
