Japan Says Houthi Attacks on Civilians, Civilian Sites Cannot Be Tolerated
[11/08/2026 06:39]

TOKYO - SABA
Japan has strongly condemned Houthi attacks targeting civilians in Yemen and Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Toshihiro Kitamura said the Houthis continue their military activities in Yemen, including an August 7 attack on a displacement camp that caused civilian casualties, along with attacks on crude oil tankers in the Red Sea and civilian facilities in Saudi Arabia that injured several people.

“Attacks targeting civilians and civilian facilities cannot be tolerated,” Kitamura said, calling for an end to the escalation.

He stressed that peace and stability in the Middle East, including freedom and safety of navigation, are of paramount importance to Japan and the international community.

Japan will continue working with the international community through diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, he said.
