Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shaya Zindani has reaffirmed the Yemeni government's commitment to strengthening human rights protections, advancing the rule of law, and further developing the national institutions responsible for safeguarding fundamental rights.
During a meeting in the interim capital, Aden, on Wednesday with Ahmed Suleiman, Head of the Yemen Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zindani said the government regards human rights as a national responsibility and a standing priority, underscoring its determination to continue reinforcing the country's human rights framework.
The meeting reviewed cooperation between the government and the UN human rights office, focusing on operational priorities for the coming period and ways to deepen coordination in support of efforts to protect and promote human rights across Yemen.
Discussions also covered the current human rights situation, government initiatives to strengthen the country's institutional and legislative framework, and efforts to enhance the capacity of relevant national bodies in line with Yemen's international obligations. The two sides also highlighted the importance of continued technical assistance provided by the UN office to Yemeni institutions.
