RIYADH – SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, accompanied by council members Sultan al-Aradah, Tariq Saleh, Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi and Othman Mujalli led Friday the crowds of worshippers and mourners in the funeral procession of Yemen’s great late leader, former President Field Marshal Abd- Rabu Mansour Hadi.
The funeral was attended by former Vice President Lieutenant General Ali Mohsen Saleh al-Ahmar; the Speakers of the Parliament Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani and the Shoura Council Dr. Ahmed Bin Dagher; a number of members of parliament, ministers, and the Shura Council; the Chairman of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission, Mohammed Al-Ghaithi; as well as senior civilian and military state officials.
The body of the late president was laid to rest at Al-Oud Cemetery after funeral prayers were held at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in central Riyadh, amid a large official and public presence, including citizens and members of the Yemeni community in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
On this tragic occasion, President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, on behalf of himself, his fellow council members and the government renewed the expression of his profound sorrow and sincere condolences to the Yemeni people, as well as to the family, companions and admirers of the nation’s great late leader, former President Field Marshal Abd-Rabu Mansour Hadi.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council stated that Yemen, with the passing of President Hadi, has lost one of its most prominent statesmen and courageous leaders, whose names became closely associated with defending the state and the republican system, and upholding national principles during the darkest and most difficult times.
The president added that the deceased was an exceptional national leader and statesman who demonstrated wisdom, patience, and responsibility.
He sincerely aligned himself with his people’s aspirations for freedom, dignity, and equal citizenship, and remained until the very last moment of his life committed to Yemen’s unity and sovereignty.
He pointed out that the late president led the country under extraordinarily difficult circumstances and, through his wisdom and patience, succeeded in preserving regional and international recognition of the Yemeni state and its legitimate institutions.
He also earnestly and sincerely sponsored the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, which represented one of the most significant unifying milestones in modern Yemeni history.
He affirmed that the legacy of the late president will remain present in the conscience of Yemenis through the national values he embodied and his steadfast positions in confronting the coup and the new Imamate project.
He consistently sought to preserve national unity, strengthen the principle of dialogue and peaceful transfer of power, and place the supreme interests of the nation above all else.
The President also expressed deep appreciation for the sincere fraternal position demonstrated by the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — its leadership, government, and people — toward the late president throughout the years of his residence there, and for the generous care and respect extended to him and his family in a manner befitting his national standing and pioneering leadership role.
He prayed to Almighty God to envelop Yemen’s great late leader in His vast mercy, grant him a place in Paradise, reward him abundantly for his service to his homeland and people, and grant his family, relatives, and loved ones patience and solace.
The Presidency of the Republic had earlier announced three days of official mourning, the lowering of flags to half-mast, and the opening of condolence registers inside and outside the country in honor of the late president’s legacy and national stature.
