A meeting held Monday chaired by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation and Yemen’s Governor to the World Bank Dr. Afrah al-Zouba and attended by a high-level World Bank delegation led by the Bank’s Vice President for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan Ousmane Dione discussed ways to enhance partnership and expand support across development, humanitarian, service, and economic sectors in the country.

Yemen participates in UN Central Emergency Fund's meeting

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Najeeb al-Awej participated in the high ranking meeting of the United Nations' Central Emergency Fund held Tuesday under presidency of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

In the meeting, which included the Assistance of the UN Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Agency Mark Luckwok and representatives of member countries, al-Awej praised UN's efforts for helping Yemeni people facing severe humanitarian crisis over Houthi militia's triggered war and allocating USD 100 million by the fund for helping people feed themselves in countries facing hunger.

He pointed out that the humanitarian situation in Yemen needs more support provided by the fund, reviewing challenges facing Yemen over complicating humanitarian situation as 80 percent of population need any form of humanitarian protection help and as 14.3 out 24 million people are in urgent need.

He expressed Yemen's aspiration for more help from friends in the international community for limiting complicating humanitarian crisis and expressed hope that the fund can achieve the financing defined by the General Secretariat as USD 1 billion annually.
