Yemen's government has called on the armed southern militants, known as the Southern Transitional Council, to end their announced 'self-rule', and allow the government institutions to function and assume responsibilities towards the public.
Addressing a UN Security Council session today, the country's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Abdullah Ali Fadhel al-Saadi, called on the separatist militants to reverse their escalation and transfer of violence to Socotra, an archipelago historically famous for its biodiversity and remoteness from all conflicts in the mainland.
The government urged for an STC adherence to the Riyadh Agreement which proides for reversing the rebellion and unifying efforts with the government against the original rebellion by Houthi theocratic militia in the north.
