RIYADH-SABA
Yemen's Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hadhrami said the implementation of Riyadh Agreement between the government and he separatist Southern Transitional Council is more urgent now than ever before.
In a phone conversation with Niels Annen the German Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office today, al-Hadhrami called on the STC "to come to reason, let go of maximalism and go forward in implementing what was agreed without further delay."
The STC, an ally to the government in the battle against Houthi rebels, mounted a coup against the government in August 2019. The Riyadh Agreement, brokered by Saudi Arabia, was reached three months later to provide for the STC joining of a national Cabinet and placement of all forces under the control of the government.
Al-Hadhrami told the German minister said the STC must match verbal (commitments) with actions for any default on these obligations will only play into the hands of the Houthi militia and Iran's expansionist agenda.
