RIYADH-SABA
Yemen's Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani on Thursday demanded the UN Security Council to impose sanctions on Iran after the US navy seized an Iranian weapons shipment in the Arabian Sea headed for Houthis.
The minister said in a statement to his country's state news agency (Saba) the Iranian regime was violating a UN Security Council resolution that bans supplying weapons to Yemen's theocratic militants.
The shipment contained "150 anti-tank missiles, 3 surface to air missiles, thermal imagery goggles, unmanned drone parts, ammunition and other military equipment," said the minister.
The minister said Iran's malign involvement in and control on Houthi decision-making contributed largely to the recent Houthi military escalations that led into the collapse of the Stockholm Agreement and return of bloodshed.
The minister stressed the imperative of imposing sanctions and enough international pressure on the Iranian regime to stop exporting arms and experts to the militia.
