Speaker of Parliament Sultan al-Barakani met on Sunday with the Secretary General of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 141st sessions of the IPU in the Serbian capital Belgrade.
Cooperation between the Yemeni Parliament and the IPU was key focus of al-Barakani's conversations with Chungong.
Al-Barakaninoted the steps taken to reinvigorate the role of the Parliament in the politics and in pushing the UN-led efforts to make peace in Yemen.
He also touched upon the violations committed by Houthi militia against the Yemeni MPs who rejected the militia's coup; calling on the IPU to take a stance in supporting the Yemeni Parliament.
The Speaker of Parliament along with the members of the Yemeni parliamentary delegation contributed to the session of the IPU's Committee on Human Rights of the MPs.
Al-Barakani provided a detailed presentation about the crimes and violations committed by the Houthi militia against the Yemeni lawmakers who aligned themselves with the legitimate government and rejected the militia's coup. He cited the charade of artificial trial against 35 of the Yemeni MPs who attended the Parliament's extraordinary.
The parliamentary delegation also contributed to the coordination meeting with the Arab, Muslim and Asian parliamentary groups.
