Yemen, Belgium discuss human rights situations

Minister of Human Rights Mohammad Askar discussed Friday with Belgium's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Geert Muylle a number of issues associated with human rights in Yemen and topics discussed in the Security Council.

Askar reviewed developments in Yemen and increasingly human rights violations over the Houthi- triggered war in a number of provinces in Houthi militia- held areas, calling for united international positions helping humanitarian situations in the country.

He confirmed significance of understanding the situation in Yemen by European friends and not present mistakenly messages on the humanitarian situation in the country.

He pointed out that Yemen is the sole country having three mechanism for monitoring human rights; human rights ministry, National Committee for Investigating Alleged Human Rights Violations and the UN Human Commission for Human Rights' office in Yemen and there is no need for additional mechanism will not help solving the problems if they do not complicate them.

He confirmed significance of reaching to consistence for drafting a united resolution on Yemen to ensure provision of support and technical help to Yemen in field of human rights and supporting the national committee's activities to finalize its successful duty in monitoring and documenting human rights violations as national mechanism for investigation.

For his part, the Belgium diplomat expressed understanding to complicated situations in Yemen, making it clear that their aim is protecting civilians and bringing justice to victims, as well as limiting human rights violations.

He confirmed their keenness on studying the minister's ideas and how to deal with them for serving human rights in Yemen.

He pointed to necessity of continuous meetings and seeking available capabilities for brining viewpoints closer during holding the 42nd Round of the Human Rights Council.
