NEW YORK-SABA
The United Kingdom held the Houthi terrorist militias fully responsible for the escalation in Yemen, condemning their continued attacks on Saudi Arabia, the escalation of their military operations within Yemen, and the threat to international navigation and regional stability.
During a UN Security Council session on Yemen, the UK Deputy Permanent Representative, Ambassador Kate Foster said: "The Houthi militias' attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia last night resulted in injuring 13 civilians, caused damage to homes and residential areas, and disrupted commercial flight operations."
She pointed out that the Houthi militias are trying to strengthen their control along Yemen's Red Sea coast and around the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, warning that this poses a direct threat to one of the world's most important shipping routes and the freedom of navigation that the global economy depends on.
Foster explained that more than 126,000 people have been displaced so far due to the escalation, with numbers expected to rise, noting the warnings from humanitarian organizations about the situation around Marib, along with increasing signs of food insecurity, health needs, and protection needs, especially for women and children.
She emphasized that Iran's ongoing support for the Houthi militias helps enable attacks that threaten civilians, neighboring countries, maritime security and peace prospects, urging all member states to fulfill their obligations under Security Council resolutions, including resolutions 2140 and 2216, and to stop transferring weapons and military support to the Houthi militia.
