Prime Minister Dr. Shaya Zindani met in Aden on Wednesday with European Union Ambassador to Yemen Patrick Simonnet and Dutch Ambassador to Yemen Jeannette Seppen to discuss developments in Yemen, the escalation by the Houthi militia, and ways to strengthen European support and partnership with the Yemeni government.

Zindani welcomed the ambassadors and expressed the government’s appreciation for European support for Yemen and its people, stressing the importance of continued political, development and humanitarian assistance to help the government address current challenges, strengthen state institutions and ease the suffering of citizens and displaced people.

He said the government and the political and military leadership remain committed to restoring state authority across the country and ending the coup, warning that the threat posed by the Houthi militia has become a cross-border threat to neighboring countries, international shipping and global trade and supply lines.

Zindani called for a clearer and more effective international response to the sources of the threat and efforts to address the factors sustaining it.

The prime minister also welcomed continued and expanded European partnership in support of stability, development and humanitarian efforts, as well as the Yemeni people’s aspirations for peace, security and the restoration of their state.

The EU and Dutch ambassadors reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Yemen and the Yemeni government, expanding cooperation and partnership, and backing efforts to achieve peace and stability and alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
