Minister of Human Rights Mishdal Omar discussed Wednesday with the Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Yemen Abdul Sattar Esayev and the organization's Senior Protection Program Coordinator Hyojung Yoo ways to strengthen cooperation in combating human trafficking.
The two parties discussed also enhancing coordination mechanisms to protect the groups most vulnerable to exploitation, particularly migrants.
The meeting reviewed the latest national and international efforts to combat human trafficking, as well as the challenges facing migrants and host communities, in conjunction with World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed tomorrow, Thursday, July 30.
The discussion also focused on priorities for the next phase, most notably the reactivation of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.
During the meeting, Minister Omar emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership between the Ministry and the IOM in areas related to the protection of human rights, in line with the organization's mandate, the Ministry's priorities and the resources available.
He also praised the IOM's role in supporting protection efforts, building institutional capacities, and responding to humanitarian needs.
For their part, the representatives of the International Organization for Migration reaffirmed the organization's commitment to continuing its cooperation with the Ministry of Human Rights and supporting national efforts to combat human trafficking and enhance the protection of vulnerable groups, thereby contributing to the promotion of human rights principles and strengthening the response to ongoing humanitarian challenges.
