[15/06/2025 05:52]
ADEN - SABA
Prime Minister Salem Saleh Bin Breik conducted Sunday a field visit to several electricity generation stations in Aden to inspect their current conditions.

The Prime Minister identifies urgent measures needed to increase their generation capacity to meet rising demand during the summer heat and alleviate citizens' suffering.

He inspected ongoing work on the energy drainage project at the Khormaksar power station, which involves establishing transmission lines and substations to supply power to the districts of Khormaksar, Sirah, Aa-Mualla and Tawahi.

He listened to explanations from officials and representatives of the executing company about the completed works, the remaining time to complete the project and its significance in improving the electricity transmission and distribution network in Aden, as part of government efforts to enhance electricity services and ease the hardships faced by citizens through the establishment of new transmission lines and substations.

The Prime Minister directed the swift completion of remaining tasks in the project within a maximum of one month and the commissioning of its components, highlighting the strategic importance of the project in energy drainage and strengthening generation capacity, as part of government efforts to develop and improve electricity services and alleviate citizens' suffering.

He also visited the A
al-Mansoura power station, where he reviewed its generation capacity and the reasons for its reduced output due to fuel shortages and necessary maintenance work.

He discussed urgent proposals to operate it at full capacity and provide diesel fuel, directing the completion of maintenance for the generators and adding a generation capacity of 20 megawatts powered by diesel due to its lower economic cost.

The Prime Minister chaired a meeting with electricity officials and the station to discuss immediate proposals to increase the production capacity of the al-Mansoura station, available alternatives to reduce power outages, securing fuel supplies to increase operational hours, and coordinated government measures with the Presidential Leadership Council in this regard.

He received a report from Abd Al-Hakim Fadhl, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, Mujeeb al-Shaabi, Director of the General Electricity Corporation and Engineer Salem al-Walidi, Director General of Aden Electricity, as well as officials and engineers from the al-Mansoura station, regarding existing issues in electricity operations, proposed solutions, and the collective responsibility to alleviate citizens' suffering this summer.

Salem Bin Breik instructed the preparation of a transparent tender to appoint a supervisory company to inspect electricity fuel and oversee the distribution process to ensure efficient use.

He stressed the need for a comprehensive detailed report on revenues and expenses related to electricity over the past two years and the first six months of this year, to be completed as soon as possible.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to reconsider the current administrative model of the electricity sector and implement real reforms that ensure viable and lasting solutions for stabilizing the service provided to citizens and mitigating the suffering caused by repeated outages. He noted the necessity of moving beyond traditional mechanisms in dealing with the electricity sector and adopting new methods that lead to efficiency in production, distribution, and collection, and finding economically viable alternatives for electricity generation relying on lower-cost fuels.

He also reiterated his full understanding of citizens' suffering due to the deterioration of electricity services, which represents a problem troubling everyone, and the efforts being made to find sustainable and urgent solutions for stabilizing the electricity system.

In this context, Prime Minister Salem Bin Breik visited the al-Hoswa thermal power station, which dates back to the 1980s, and reviewed the station's components and the necessary requirements for its operation, which include completing maintenance work on the turbines and providing fuel to enable large-scale production.

He listened to explanations from the station's director, Engineer Nufal Mujmal and the station's engineers regarding the maintenance performed on the turbines, the reasons for the shutdown, ongoing contracts with maintenance companies, and proposed solutions. They noted the possibility of operating 40 megawatts from the station using diesel fuel and that completing maintenance on the turbines and boilers would make a significant difference in increasing the electricity generation capacity from the station.

The Prime Minister issued several directives to the leadership of the Ministry of Electricity, the General Electricity Corporation and station officials to address existing issues at all administrative and technical levels and to elevate the quality of service provided to citizens, while re-prioritizing electricity sector needs according to urgent requirements.
