Ministers of water, health discuss with WB financing human capital project

Minister of Water and Environment Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi and Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasem Buhaybeh held a virtual meeting on Tuesday with the World Bank to discuss the third additional financing portfolio for the Human Capital Project in Yemen, worth USD50 million.

During the meeting, attended by United Nations organizations operating in Yemen and officials from the World Bank office, several planned activities in the fields of health, nutrition, water, sanitation, and environmental sanitation were reviewed and evaluated within the framework of the bank-funded Human Capital Project.

The priorities for activities under the additional support within the project were also discussed.

The objective of the third additional financing is to support institutional capacities and enhance the capabilities of water, health, and sanitation systems, with the aim of improving coverage rates for basic services, as well as enhancing quality, resilience, and support for existing projects and their management.

The Country Director of the World Bank affirmed the continued support for service projects in Yemen and the ongoing focus on the sustainability of health, nutrition, water, and sanitation services as part of the bank's support for essential services.
