Government Reaffirms Commitment to Ending Taiz Siege, Calls for Expanded Houthi Terrorist Designation
[28/10/2026 04:42]
ADEN-SABA

The Yemeni government has reaffirmed that lifting the Houthi siege on Taiz, protecting residents, and securing roads and supplies remain top national priorities.

In a statement issued at a conference in Aden on the impact of the Houthi war and siege on Taiz, the government said the blockade, attacks on civilians, and disruption of essential supplies violate citizens' rights and undermine state sovereignty. It held the Houthi militia responsible for the resulting violations and suffering.

The government pledged to mobilize state resources and support the armed forces in defending the republic, lifting the siege, and restoring state institutions, in line with President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi's declaration of general mobilization and the launch of Operation Yemen Dawn.

It condemned Iran's military, financial, and technical support for the Houthis, calling for international action to stop weapons transfers, disrupt funding and smuggling networks, and hold those involved accountable.

The government also urged international partners to provide political, military, security, logistical, economic, and humanitarian support, press the Houthis to end the siege and open main roads safely and permanently, and expand the international designation of the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization.

It praised Taiz residents for their resilience, commended the sacrifices of the armed forces, security personnel, and popular resistance, and expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its continued support for the Yemeni government and people.

The government said the effectiveness of international action should be measured by its impact on lifting the siege, stopping attacks, and cutting off the militia's sources of weapons and funding.
