Yemen Calls on OIC to Designate Houthi Militias as Terrorist Organization

BAGHDAD - SABA
The Republic of Yemen has called on the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take a firm stance and classify the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization, cut off their sources of funding and stop the flow of weapons and military expertise to them, in order to counter their ongoing terrorism that has come to threaten the region's security and stability.

This was stated in the speech of the Republic of Yemen delivered today, Saturday, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Dr. Afrah al-Zoubi, during the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC member states held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that the Yemeni government, which has stuck with the choice of peace for twelve years, will not accept turning peace into a cover that legitimizes the coup and weapons outside the framework of the state.
She stressed that a fair and permanent peace is based on respecting Yemen's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, restoring its institutions and adhering to the agreed comprehensive solution references, namely Resolution 2216.

The Foreign Minister also pointed out that the ongoing war in Yemen cannot be separated from the military and technical support that Iran provides to the Houthi militias, which prolongs the conflict and turns Yemeni lands into a platform for threatening regional security.

She noted that these interventions do not align with the principles of good neighborliness and respect for the sovereignty of member states, which the charter of the OIC based on.

The Foreign Minister said: "It doesn't make sense for someone who arms one side of a conflict and supplies them with tools of killing and destruction to offer mediation, and then portray what's happening in Yemen as a dispute between two countries, when in reality it's an armed militia coup against a member state of this organization".

She added: "We are surprised how Iran calls for mediation while it armed, trained and supported the Houthi militias, making sure its threat extends to neighboring countries and international trade routes.

Today, our Islamic world clearly sees the difference between Iran's polished political talk and its destructive actions, aimed at misleading the world about the nature of the war and falsely legitimizing the coup."
