Deputy Chairwoman of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission Belqis Abu Asbu said the September 26 Revolution remains the greatest political transformation in modern Yemeni history, as it ended hereditary rule and set Yemen on the path toward a national state and equal citizenship.

In an interview with Saba marking the revolution’s 64th anniversary, Abu Asbu said the revolution established the principle that Yemen belongs to all its citizens and that political authority derives from the people.

She said the Houthi militia’s coup represents a direct reversal of those gains by seeking to replace citizenship and popular sovereignty with sectarian and hereditary claims to power, placing ideological loyalty and weapons above national allegiance, the Constitution and the law.

Abu Asbu stressed that confronting the Houthi project is a defense of Yemenis’ right to a state, equal citizenship, the rule of law and popular sovereignty, describing the struggle as one between the republican system and the legacy of imamate rule.

She said September 26 should be viewed not merely as an annual anniversary but as a living national reference whose values must be protected by strengthening state institutions, the rule of law and equal citizenship.
