Masam Clears 819 Houthi-Laid Mines and Explosive Devices in a Week

Saudi Arabia's Masam Project cleared 819 mines and explosive devices planted by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia across Yemen during the fourth week of August, as efforts continue to remove one of the deadliest legacies of the conflict.

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre's mine-clearance project said the latest haul included 23 anti-personnel mines, 29 anti-tank mines, 764 pieces of unexploded ordnance and three improvised explosive devices.

The operation raised the number of mines and explosive devices cleared during August to 10,099, while Masam's overall tally since the project was launched reached 588,325.

Houthi forces have indiscriminately planted mines across Yemen's governorates, turning vast areas into potential death traps for civilians and leaving communities exposed to a danger that persists long after fighting subsides.

Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, continues to support the clearance of Yemen's contaminated land, helping protect civilians and restore safe access to homes, farms and livelihoods.
