Yemen Victims Network Documents 18 Civilian Casualties in Three Governorates in One Week
[16/08/2026 05:59]
MARIB-SABA

The Yemen Network of Victims (YNV) documented the deaths and injuries of 18 civilians over one week as a result of ballistic missile and drone attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia in the governorates of Marib, Taiz and Hodeidah.

The network said at a press conference held in Marib today under the title “Civilians in the Crosshairs of Escalation” that its monitoring covered a series of attacks and violations targeting civilians and civilian objects in Marib, Taiz, Hodeidah and Al-Dhalea between August 4 and 15.

It reported that Houthi ballistic missiles and drones struck the Jaw Al-Naseem displacement camp in Marib on August 7, killing two civilians and injuring 14 others, including women and children. The attack also caused extensive damage to shelters, water and sewage networks, and private property.

On August 9, the network documented dozens of ballistic missiles and drone attacks targeting Mokha city and port, Al-Khokha city and the vicinity of the Saudi Field Hospital on the western coast, resulting in civilian casualties, including children.

The network added that Houthi shelling continued in several areas of Taiz, including Al-Taiziyah, Saber Al-Mawadim and Maqbanah districts. On August 8, the attacks injured two women and two children, one of them an infant, while another attack on August 10 killed a girl and injured a child in Saber Al-Mawadim.

The network also documented the Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in international waters off the Bab al-Mandab Strait on August 11, which killed three crew members and injured others during rescue operations.

On August 15, the militia targeted the Al-Sharika residential neighborhood in Marib city with ballistic missiles, causing civilian casualties and destroying or damaging several homes and private properties.

The network described the attacks and systematic violations as war crimes and crimes against humanity, saying they reflected a repeated pattern of targeting civilians and civilian objects in violation of the principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution under international humanitarian law.

It called on the United Nations, the UN Security Council and the international community to take effective measures to protect civilians and hold those responsible accountable, as well as to conduct an independent international investigation into violations against civilians involving ballistic missiles and drones.
