Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Shaya Zindani on Tuesday stressed the importance of close coordination between the government and the World Food Programme (WFP) to ensure humanitarian interventions are aligned with urgent needs, improve efficiency and transparency in program implementation, and expand sustainable projects that maximize the impact of international funding.
This came during his meeting in the temporary capital Aden with WFP Country Director in Yemen Khodr Daloum, where the two sides discussed areas of cooperation, the program’s priorities for the upcoming phase, and ongoing humanitarian and development interventions, as well as ways to enhance their effectiveness for beneficiaries.
Dr. Zindani praised the humanitarian role played by the WFP in Yemen, affirming the government’s commitment to providing all necessary support and facilitation to enable the organization to carry out its humanitarian and development mandate effectively.
He also emphasized the need to strengthen partnership with United Nations agencies to ensure aid and resources are directed toward national priorities, calling for a gradual shift from emergency relief toward sustainable development approaches.
For his part, Daloum outlined the WFP’s key strategic directions for the coming period, including efforts to strengthen food security, improve livelihoods, expand resilience-building programs, and support recovery initiatives.
