ADEN – SABA
Minister of Public Works and Roads Engineer Hussein al-Aqrabi accompanied by the Japanese Ambassador to Yemen Yunichi Nakashima inspected Wednesday the rehabilitation and maintenance project of al-Khamsin Street in Al-Mansoura District of the temporary capital Aden, following the completion of the project, which was funded by the Japanese government through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

During the visit, which was attended by representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the officials reviewed the completed works and the level of project implementation according to approved engineering specifications and standards.

The project extends for 2,240 meters, starting from Bir Fadhl Roundabout, passing through al-Buyraiq Roundabout, and reaching the intersection leading to al-Buraiqah District.

The works included the rehabilitation and maintenance of the asphalt layer, improvement of the rainwater drainage network, construction of curbs, paving both sides of the road with interlocking stones, maintenance and landscaping of the central median, installation of new street lighting poles, and implementation of traffic safety measures and road markings.

Minister al-Aqrabi stated that the project represents a qualitative addition to Aden’s road network, contributing to smoother traffic flow, facilitating citizens’ movement, and reducing congestion. He stressed the importance of continuing international partnerships to support vital infrastructure projects.

For his part, the Japanese Ambassador affirmed his government’s commitment to continuing support for infrastructure projects and basic services in Yemen.

He praised the quality of implementation of the al-Khamsin Street project and emphasized the importance of developing vital road networks that facilitate citizens’ movement and enhance economic activity.

In the same context, Minister al-Aqrabi and the Japanese Ambassador inspected the roads connecting al-Khamsin and al-Tis’in routes, including the Bir Fadhl Roundabout–al-Tis’in Intersection road and the al-Khamsin Intersection–al-Salam Roundabout road.
