RIYADH - SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) received today, Wednesday, the Ambassador of the Republic of France to the Republic of Catherine Corm Kammoun to discuss the developments in the Yemeni national arena, mainly the developments in the eastern governorates and the needed role by the international community in supporting the Saudi-led efforts to deescalate tensions and normalize the situations in the Hadhramaut and al-Mahra governorates.
The President highly praised the French role in supporting the PLC, the government and Yemen's unity and territorial integrity, as stated in the UN Security Council statement yesterday, Tuesday.
He celebrated the Yemeni-French historical relations, deeply appreciated France steadfast support for the Yemeni people and its official leadership at international forums.
The conversations covered the recent developments in Yemen and the multiple and the intertwined challenges the national forces faced by in light of the unilateral measures taken by the Transitional Council outside constitutional frameworks and beyond the stage of the transitional period, foremost of which are the declaration of the transfer of power and the Riyadh Agreement
The President affirmed that the state will fulfill its duties to fully protect its legal position, which requires the international community to take a clearer stance in support of its constitutional and legal measures in this regard.
He praised the advanced description of the current crisis provided by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The President warned that any internal disintegration would strengthen the influence of extremist groups and create security gaps along one of the most important international navigation routes.
He made it clear that the security of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden begins with the stability of the Yemeni state, not with legitimizing parallel entities.
The President explained that the restraint exercised by the leadership over the past years was not a sign of weakness, but a national responsibility and a commitment to the agreements and efforts of brothers and friends to avoid further violence and not exacerbate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The Chairman of the PLC reiterated the Council's commitment to bring a fair resolution of the southern issue, in accordance with the popular will, openness to peace, partnerships and fair political solutions.
However, he emphasized a categorical rejection of dismantling the state, imposing a fait accompli, and rewarding parties that have overturned the governing authorities of the transitional phase.
