[17/12/2025 06:04]

TAIZ – SABA
Governor of Taiz Nabil Shamsan has directed the formation of a committee to prepare a plan and an action matrix to confront any potential water crisis and to take all necessary measures to ensure the sustainability of services.

This came during his meeting Wednesday with members of the Board of Directors of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation to discuss the water situation and ways to address current challenges to ensure the continued supply of water to citizens.

The meeting, which included the Governor’s Undersecretary for Services, Rashad al-Akhali, reviewed level of implementation of the outcomes of the previous meeting and the measures taken during the past period, in addition to identifying the difficulties facing the corporation in pumping water from the wells in al-Hawban area and the actual diesel requirements needed to operate the wells and ensure uninterrupted water supply.

Governor Shamsan and the board members listened to a detailed report from the Director General of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation Engineer Watheq al-Aghbari on the urgent measures taken by the corporation to mitigate the severity of the crisis, as well as proposed alternatives and contingency plans to address emerging issues and secure water provision.

The meeting also discussed coordination mechanisms with the Governorate’s Office of Endowments and Guidance to connect endowment-owned wells to the public water network, contributing to strengthening water resources and improving the level of service provided to citizens.

The meeting approved a number of recommendations and solutions including obligating government bodies and offices to pay outstanding debts owed to the Water Corporation, thereby enhancing its financial capacity and ensuring its continued ability to perform its service duties.
