The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries Salem al-Soqtri, along with a high-level delegation from the World Bank (WB), headed by the regional manager of the Bank for Egypt, Yemen and Djibouti Stefan Jimbert inspected today, Tuesday, the rehabilitation project of the docking ground center in the al-Ma'alla district of the temporary capital, Aden.
The project is implemented as part of the fisheries development project in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, funded by the International Development Association of the WB, through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The project includes an ice plant to enhance the efficiency of the value chain in the fisheries sector, reduce fish wastage, improve the quality of marketed fish, as well as showrooms, auction facilities, the installation of a solar energy system, and support service centers.
al-Soqatri emphasized the importance of the fish unloading dock as one of the vital strategic projects and it will be a central hub for unloading fishing quantities to serve several governorates.
He pointed out that the project is set to contribute to organizing the fish marketing process, reducing fish waste, improving the living conditions of fishermen, and enhancing food security in our country.
