Deputy Governor of Taiz Dr. Abdulqawi al-Mikhlafi, along with the Director of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen in Aden Engineer Ahmed Al-Madkhali, laid the foundation stone for the project of establishing and equipping the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing at the University of Taiz.
The project comes within the framework of the Program's support for the education sector in Yemen.
Al-Mikhlafi commended the efforts of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and their support for education and development in the governorate, stressing that the local authority highly appreciates the support of the Saudi Program and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, which is manifested in the implementation of strategic projects, whether in the establishment of the medical colleges at the university.
He also praised Saudi support for the repair and rehabilitation of Hygat al-Abd Road, which is the main artery of the governorate, the arrangements for the establishment of a 50-megawatt diesel-powered power station, and vital projects in the fields of education, health, services, and sustainable development.
For his part, the President of the University of Taiz, Dr. Mohamed al-Shuaibi, emphasized that laying the foundation stone for the project of the Educational Medical City, represented by the Faculties of Medicine, Health Sciences, Laboratories, Pharmacy, and Nursing, constitutes a qualitative leap in the process of development and advancement of medical and health education, and will contribute to graduating generations of doctors, nurses, and health specialists capable of providing the best medical services to citizens.
The Director of the Office of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen expressed his happiness in laying the foundation stone for the implementation of the project, which comes within the support for the education sector, including higher education, technical and vocational training, with the aim of enabling students to actively participate in community development and achieve scientific progress.
The project will contribute to enhancing the specialized scientific aspect, preparing qualified personnel to support the health sector, and training medical personnel to provide high-quality health services, addressing the shortage of medical personnel, and improving the quality of medical services and scientific research, he said.
The project is one of 52 development projects and initiatives in the education sector of the Program in Yemen.
