Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, approved a 5 million dollars contribution with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to implement the United Nations coordinated and emergency plan to save the stranded oil tanker "Safer" and to end the potential and imminent environmental catastrophe that may be caused by the decaying tanker.
The amount is from the allocations for biodiversity support in our country approved by the Global Environment Facility for the eighth phase.
Minister Al-Sharjabi discussed with the Deputy Director of the United Nations Development Program in Aden, Walid Baharoun, international efforts to spare our country, the region and the world a disaster that threatens peace and security in the Red Sea, which may result from the leakage of more than one million barrels of oil on board the Safer tanker.
