Yemen calls for pressuring Houthi militias to adhere to the de-escalation, engage in the peace efforts

Permanent Representative of the Republic of Yemen to the UN Ambassador Abdullah Assa'adi called on the UN and international community to ramp up pressures upon the Houthi militias to stop its violations and pillaging the Yemeni peoples' resources.

He stressed that it is very important for the Houthi militias to adhere to the de-escalation as it is a humanitarian priority and engage with good faith with the efforts of the UN's Envoy to Yemen and the good offices and mediation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman to reacha fair and sustainable solution to the Yemeni crisis in order to ensure the necessary protection of the civilians and basic services to the Yemeni people.

Speaking at opening session of the International Security Council today, Wednesday, in New York about the protection of the civilians, ensuring their security and dignity, handling food insecurity and protect basic services amid armed conflict Assa'idi cited the militias' crimes and violations which are jeopardizing the political process, causing economic damages to all Yemenis, worsening the humanitarian suffering.

Ambassador Assa'idi stressing the necessity to enable the Yemeni government to resume oil exports in order to be capable of fulfilling its urgent financial obligations toward the citizens including paying salaries which vitally important to support the population to cope with the economic hardships and to secure the food imports and supplies to the Yemeni people all over the country.

He touched upon the most recent statistics about the humanitarian situation in Yemen.

" According the latest statistics over 21.6 million Yemenis need humanitarian aids out of them more than 17 million are facing acute food shortages, while malnourishment percentages among women, children in Yemen are extremely high.

This gloomy image of the situation in Yemen is a result of the war has been launched by Houthi militias against the Yemeni people for more than eight years", said Assa'idi.
