PM receives UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen

Prime Minister Dr. Maeen Abdulmalik received the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, David Gressly in the Swiss city of Geneva today.

During the meeting, they discussed the results of the Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan 2023 Financing Conference, organized by the governments of Switzerland and Sweden under the auspices of the United Nations, and the required coordination between the government and the United Nations, to make efficient use of pledges in accordance with urgent priorities.

The Prime Minister was briefed by the UN official on the latest developments in the international plan to empty the decaying Safer oil tanker and maintain it to avoid a global environmental disaster in the Red Sea, in addition to the relief and humanitarian efforts of the United Nations offices and agencies and the existing partnership with the government in this aspect. Dr. Maeen Abdulmalik stressed the need to adopt more feasible policies to alleviate human suffering in Yemen, by supporting the efforts of the government and its institutions to maintain economic stability, and balancing between relief and development work.

He referred to the government's plans to deal with challenges and emergency developments and what this requires of doubling international support, the regional and international one. For his part, the UN official pointed out that the declared pledges were much less than the existing need, and the keenness to continue communication to mobilize additional support for the Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan 2023, appreciating the government's support for the efforts and activities of the United Nations, and its keenness to strengthen partnership in various aspects.
