PARIS-SABA
France has announced providing additional one million € for financing UN Rescue Plan of Safir Oil Tanker, which is about to explode on the Red Sea coasts.
The French Foreign Ministry said in a release on Monday that this donation, which increases French contribution to 2.26 million €, confirms Paris' commitment on protecting environment in the region and its continuous support to the UN Plan for Rescuing Safir Tanker.
Safir tanker is an oil ship stranded on the Res Sea's coast, Hodeida and is about to explode over lack of maintenance work since the eruption of Houthi militia's triggered war in Yemen in 2014.
According to the UN Plan, the process of rescuing the tanker will be carried out in two phases; the first one transporting 1.14 million barrels of crude oil into another ship.
