Jeddah – Saba
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, discussed with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in a meeting in Jedda today the latest developments in Yemen, the efforts to bring peace and stability to Yemen, and restore the momentum of joint cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

The meeting touched on the historical relations between the two countries, the US support required for the economic and service reforms led by the Presidential Leadership Council, and the government to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, and rebuild the institutions destroyed by the war of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.

In the meeting, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the American stances on the side of the Yemeni people, their legitimate leadership, and their legitimate aspirations to build a modern democratic state in which all Yemenis participate.

His Excellency the President acquainted the US Secretary of State about the reality of the situation in Yemen and the background of Yemen's slide into this costly war starting from the terrorist Houthi militia's seizure of power in spite of the national consensus, the initiation of its racial and sectarian entity, and undermining the relative rights and gains acquired by the Yemeni women, the press, and religious minorities that had accumulated over the years and previous decades.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council also praised the role of the coalition, led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, in preventing a comprehensive collapse of the state, in addition to the economic, development and humanitarian support in various fields.

He affirmed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to the path of a just and comprehensive peace, based on national, regional and international references, especially Resolution 22016, calling for an active US role to pressure the Houthi militias to implement the terms of the truce, including the main roads in Taiz, which has been besieged for seven years.

For his part, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken renewed his welcome to the transfer of power in Yemen, stressing the United States' support for the President and members of the Presidential Leadership Council, and the council's reforms in various fields.

The US secretary also affirmed his country's commitment to supporting Yemen's unity, sovereignty and stability, and encouraging regional and international allies to provide more economic and humanitarian support to the Presidential Command Council, the government and the Yemeni people.

He stressed the necessity of the Houthis' commitment to implement all the provisions of the truce, especially removing the blockade on Taiz roads, and in this context, he stressed his country's commitment to continue pressure to push the militias to fulfill their obligations under the truce agreement.
