The Republic of Yemen warned of Houthi militia's increasingly growing planting of landmines that has seriously polluted large swaths of the Yemeni lands with landmines, denying prevent deminers access to some regions.
The General Director of the National Program for Demining (NPD) Brigadier Ameen al-Aqaili revealed that the deminers managed during the two years of 2020-2021 to pull out 3064 anti-personnel, 53002 anti-armed vehicles landmines, 177,696 unexploded ordnances (UXO) and 4, 591 explosive devices, all planted by Iran backed Houthi militiamen in different Yemeni regions.
Speaking at the special meetings about the ban of anti-personnel landmines held in Geneva al-Aqail stated that the NPD needs $48 million to support its demining teams' operations.
