Yemen FM calls on UN to use one standard toward the country's humanitarian situation
[21/06/2022 06:37]

Oslo - Saba
Foreign Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak met with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary A. DiCarlo, to discuss the role of the United Nations in Yemen and developments related to the truce and peace efforts.

Bin Mubarak pointed to the importance of UN dealing with humanitarian issues in Yemen with one standard and not compartmentalizing those issues, citing the Houthi militia's continued avoidance of lifting the siege on the city of Taiz and even stopping the continued attacks on the city.

He said that the Presidential Leadership Council deals with all humanitarian issues in Yemen based on a single national principle and does not compromise on solving one humanitarian issue in exchange for another, but rather seeks to address all humanitarian issues that resulted from the Houthi coup that caused all human tragedies in Yemen.

Bin Mubarak stressed the need for the prisoners' freedom issues to remain on the list of concerns and priorities of the United Nations and the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General to Yemen, and that efforts to release the prisoners and put an end to the obstacles created by the Houthi militia in this matter should continue.

He stressed the importance of evaluating the status of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement and the importance of activating its role, pointing to the need to move the mission's headquarters outside the areas occupied by the Houthi militia to get rid of the restrictions imposed by the militia on the mission, which paralyzed the mission's movement and impeded the completion of its tasks.
