Minister of Water and Environment Tawfeeq al-Sharjabi discussed Wednesday with the European delegation means of enhancing cooperation in water and environmental field and significance of transferring from emergency situation into developmental projects in water and sanitation.
In the meeting, which included Charge D'Affairs of French Embassy to Yemen, head of GIZ, officer of water and agriculture and food security at Dutch Embassy in Yemen and directors of offices of UN organizations; FAO, UNICEF and UNDP, al-Sharjabi reviewed water and environmental situation in Yemen, which faces big challenges due to water scarcity and increasing demands for water.
He pointed out to system of managing information in the ministry, problems of displaced people, diseases associated with water and government's efforts to secure water to citizens, confirming that there is no food security without water security.
For her part, the French diplomat confirmed significance of promoting cooperation and coordinating work of French organizations in field of water, meanwhile, the German official confirmed that the aim of the visit is coordinating with the government to work from transferring from humanitarian into sustainable and developmental assistances and working on increasing German support to water sector.
The officer of water, agricultural and food security at Dutch embassy in Yemen stressed importance of exiting sustainability in all interventions of donors and finding solutions to problems of coordination between the two parties.
