The Japanese government welcomed the entry into force of the two-month armistice agreement in Yemen, mediated by the United Nations.
In a statement, Japanese Foreign Ministry spokesman valued the mediation efforts undertaken by the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to bring peace and stability to Yemen, including this agreement and recent political consultations.
The statement said the Government of Japan strongly hopes the agreement "will continue to respect all parties concerned, achieve fuel import and renewal of commercial flights, and make progress in the dialogue towards achieving a political solution to the situation in Yemen."
"The government of Japan is actively working to provide humanitarian assistance to Yemen and remains committed to continuing efforts, in cooperation with the United Nations" to achieve peace, he added.
