The Minister of Finance, Salem bin Breik, discussed with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Monetary Fund, Dr. Aburahman Alhameedi strengthening joint cooperation between Yemen and the Fund, tackling arrears on Yemen, and coordinating technical support and capacity building for the country.
In a virtual meeting via video conference today, they also reviewed the current situation and existing challenges, and the prospects for the proposed support from the Fund, which includes a program to support structural reforms, contribute to providing technical advice for the rehabilitation of the financial sector and the development of financial infrastructure systems, capacity-building, training and trade financing.
The Minister touched on the financial and economic conditions in Yemen, and the economic, living and health challenges facing the country, especially the challenges facing the sustainability of public finances and the sustainability of economic and social development, and the economic downturn since 2014 due to the war imposed by the Houthi coup militia.
He stressed Yemen's need for more assistance and necessary facilities by providing support for financial reform efforts to correct the structural situation of the government financial sector, whether by providing loans or other credit facilities, and providing the necessary support to the health sector which is suffering a breakdown due to the war.
