Al-Sharjabi, Humanitarian Dialogue discuss water scarcity in Yemen

Minister of Water and Environment Tawfeeq al-Sharjabi discussed Sunday with researchers Mohammad al-Qadhi and Adam Baron from the Center of Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva the problem of water scarcity in Yemen and a number of water issues.

Al-Sharjabi pointed out to problem of consuming groundwater in agriculture and outlaw digging of water and lack of controlling water resources.

He pointed out that there are seven water basins out of 14 in critical conditions, noting that the international support to water sector has been deteriorating since 2015 and mostly deteriorated after corona pandemic, which reflected on production of water of big costs.

He also pointed out to a number of environmental issues associated with climate change, saying that studies on climate change in Yemen are not enough due to current conditions.
