Arab Parliament warns against maximalist Houthi rejection of Safer maintenance
[12/11/2020 03:00]
CAIRO-SABA
The Arab Parliament has warned against the maximalist Houthi rejection of any UN technical help with maintaining the dangerously decaying oil tanker known as Safer in the Red Sea.

The tanker, laden with more than one million barrels of crude, has been held hostage by the Houthi rebel militia since 2015 and, due to decaying conditions, the tanker is threatening an oil spill or explosion which will constitute an unprecedented environmental catastrophe to the Red Sea countries. The speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Al-Asoomi, said in a statement on Thursday that 1.100,

000 million barrels of crude risk leaking to the sea as a result of the Houthi militia’s denied of UN maintenance team access to the vessel.

Al-Asoomi called on the UN Security Council to assume their moral responsibility and prevent an epic environmental and humanitarian disaster before it occurs.
