Minister of Fishery Wealth Fahd Kafayen has confirmed that rebel Houthi militia is still hindering local and international efforts for solving Safir Oil Tanker issue off Hodeida's coasts and bans access of the UN team to the tanker for emptying it.
" In case of not taking any measure to the tanker, it may cause leaking of 1.14 million barrel of crude oil to water of the Red Sea, causing unprecedented disaster on marine lives and maritime environment in the region," Kafayen told Saba on Monday.
He made it clear that the government of Yemen exerts efforts for solving the problem and has showed readiness to cooperate for emptying the tanker and selling the crude oil for supporting health sector and humanitarian issues.
He expressed concerns that time is running out over Houthi militia's stubbornness before efforts for avoiding likely disaster, noting that the government is waiting for international pressure on Houthi militia to allow the team to start emptying the tanker.
