[13/09/2020 01:52]
RIYADH-SABA
Parliament Speaker Sultan al-Barakani has stressed significance of taking serious steps by the United Nations and its envoy in Yemen for realizing inclusive and just peace on the bases of the three agreed upon references; the GCC Initiative, the outcomes of the National Conference and Security Council's Resolution 2216.

The situation of Yemeni people over Houthi militia's practices does not bear more negligence and silence by the UN and the international community, said al-Barakani in his meeting with the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths on Sunday.

" Efforts exerted for realizing peace are faced by Houthi militia's stubbornness and their wide-ranging war in Marib and Jawf, killing and terrifying civilians and destroying houses and establishments," he said adding that this confirms the militia's insistence on war choice and undermining all peace efforts," he added.

He touched upon efforts exerted for solving Safir Oil Tanker's problem, stressing necessity of swift solution to this problem to avoid an environmental catastrophe threatening the whole region, pointing out Houthi militia exploits Safir issue a means for blackmailing the world.

He confirmed keenness of the government of Yemen for realizing inclusive and just peace on the bases of the three references, praising UN efforts for realizing peace in Yemen.

The two parties also discussed means of realizing peace in Yemen, UN efforts for ending the war and alleviating suffering of the Yemeni people and efforts for implementing articles of Riyadh Agreement.

For his part, the UN envoy reviewed his efforts for ending the war and realizing aspirations of Yemeni people of stability and overcoming challenges.
