RIYADH - SABA
Yemen's Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani has called on the UN in particular the UN Security Council to "condemn the hostile Iranian activities in the Yemeni waters" in the aftermath of an international report confirmin those activities.
Global Fishing Watch (GFW) and Trygg Mat Tracking (TMT) said in a recent report that at least 192 Iranian boats illegally fished in Somalia and Yemen's territorial waters last year, depleting food supplies in these countries.
Al-Eryani said in a statement to Saba the Iranian vessels routinely overfish in Yemeni waters, shoot fire at Yemeni fishing boats and smuggle arms to the radical theocratic rebels known as Houthis.
Al-Eryani said the report uncovers part of the Iranian hostile activities and the UN Security Council is required to "condemn these hostile activites and pressure the Iranian regime to halt these activities which breach the sovereignty and security of Yemen."
