In a meeting with the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths, the speaker of the Yemeni parliament has stressed the imperative of pressuring the Houthis into implementing the Hodeidah withdrawal agreement according to a timetable.
Sultan al-Barakani said the issue of replacement forces needs to be resolved according to the Yemeni law and the mutual oversight of withdrawal (by the Government, Houthis and the UN) needs also to be enforced.
He renewed the government's refusal of any armed rebellion, saying the government is working now to end a rebellion by separatists in Aden to maintain the territorial integrity of the country.
The UN envoy said he is keen to continue his efforts to broker a political solution in line with the agreed upon terms of reference; the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue and the UN Security Resolutions mainly resolution no 2216 (2015).
