FM says failure of Stockholm Agreement not an option
[14/02/2019 03:51]

WARSAW-SABA

Foreign Minister Khaled Alyemani stressed the importance of the Stockholm Agreement, which "represents the first achievement of all peace efforts in Yemen since the crisis broke out." Addressing the International Conference on the Middle East in Warsaw, Alyemany said the government does not see the failure of the agreement "as an option."

He said that the Agreement enhances confidence-building if only the Houthis implement its requirements.

But he questioned the intentions of the Houthis to implement it or engage in a peace process given their persistent digging of trenches and sending of military reinforcements to Hodeidah.

Alyemany stressed the need of the international community to pressure the Houthi militia and their backer, Iran, "so that we can maintain the high level of efforts for establishing peace" based on the Agreement.

He pointed to the destabilizing role that Iran plays in Yemen by supporting the Houthis to hijack the Yemeni state and destabilize the security of the country and the region.
