Presidential Decisions Bring Historic Gains for Yemeni Women
The recent republican decisions issued yesterday, Thursday, marked a new turning point in promoting the participation of Yemeni women in decision-making positions. The decisions included the appointment of Dr. Afrah Abdulaziz Al-Zouba as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, making her the first woman in the country's history to hold this sovereign portfolio. Moreover, Dr. Ahd Mohammed Salem Jaasous was appointed Minister of Local Administration, becoming the first woman to take on this ministry since the establishment of the republic.

PM : We're seeking to empower woman by implementing NDOs

Prime Minister Dr Ma'een Abdulmalik stated that government is intended to empower woman by implementing National Dialogue Outcomes (NDOs) which grant woman 30% representation in different levels of authority structures.

Dr Ma'een's statement came as he met Thursday with a group of women leaders of different political constituencies who participated in the First Women Summit held recently in the temporary capital Aden.

Minister of State for the implementation of NDOs Yasser Arro'aini was in attendance.

The meeting devoted to discuss several topics pertaining to woman's role in different areas of politics, social, economy and culture.

The Prime Minister stated that the government is going to grant marginalized women seats in the universities to contribute to their academic and cultural development.

He also noted that the government will work out an overall national plan to enforce the resolution 1325 about women, peace and security.

The Prime Minister stated that the government is going to take a package of urgent decisions to ensure women protection through the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in government-held provinces.
