The Houthi war and siege on Taiz since 2015 have hugely impacted water and hygiene in the central Yemen city, local officials said.
Shihab al-Burayhi the director of Develop Your Society said in a meeting his organization co-organized with the local authorities of Taiz and attended by different other NGOs on Thursday that his organization’s surveys showed that water’s prices rose by 100%, health issues faced by children involved in water fetching increased by 25% and sewer overflow increased by 37% which helped the spread of epidemics.
He also said that smaller scale disputes on waterincreased by 20%.
He said that water supply has been cut ever since the Houthi coupist militia invaded the city in 2015 and were later pushed out to its peripheries where they imposed a siege that continues to this day.
