Info. Minister calls on IC to pressure Houthi militia to release the journalists Arrefi, Abdulghani
[25/10/2018 06:06]

ADEN-SABA
Minister of Information Muamer Al-Iryani called on the International Community (IC), on top of all, the UN and its envoy to Yemen to pressure Houthi putschist militia to immediately set free the two journalists Ashraf Arrefi and Adel Abduolghani.

The militiamen arrested Thursday the two journalists along with 20 more journalists, political and human rights and activists while they held a press conference at Comfort Hotel in the capital Sana'a.

The young activists and journalists organized the press conference to launch "Anti-hate and violence discourse campaign " aimed to counter hate and violence rhetoric promoted by the Yemeni media outlets. The event organized in cooperation with the UNICEF. The participants were released later on except Arrefi and Abdulghani.

In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) Al-Iryani condemned the arrest incident describing it as one more crimes by Iran-backed Houthi militia against the journalists. " Once again the Iran- allied Houthi militia asserted its oppressive and repressive policy aims to curtail freedoms, crackdown politicians, journalists and activists, brutally assaulting, illegally arresting and abducting and detaining in jails.. all are imprescriptible offenses", said Al-Iryani.

The Minister called on the international organizations, first of all the UNICEF to denounce crimes and violations that Houthi rebellious militia carry out on the daily basis.
