Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin-Daghr has declared a state of health emergency in five southern provinces after the emergence of cholera in Abyan.
The premier ordered the health sector to be on highest alert in Shabwah, Lahj, Dhale'a and Aden but primarily in Abyan, where the emerging epidemic is feared to spill over by infections.
The water diarrhea disease which is rampant in several parts of Yemen, has lately appeared in a new province, Abyan. .
The premier conducted an inspection visit to Zubjubar district of Abyan and met local authority officials to address the emergence of the epidemic.
The premier ordered the health minister to lead a campaign to treat the diarrhea patients and prevent further infections or the spillover into other provinces especially Abyan neighbors, Shabwah, Aden and Lahj.
The premier put all the necessary means at the governor and local health officials' disposal to contain the prevalence of the disease and treat the existing infection.
