Foreign Minister: Empowering State To Protect Its Sovereignty, Coasts Cornerstone For Bab al-Mandeb Security, International Navigation Safety
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Afrah al-Zouba stated that the Yemeni state undertakes its constitutional and sovereign responsibility to protect its citizens, lands, coasts, ports and territorial waters, and that enabling its institutions to carry out this responsibility is a key element for the security of Bab al-Mandeb, the Red Sea and international navigation and trade.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep concern over the resumption of attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the renewed threats to international maritime navigation.
In a statement, Guterres said the attack on commercial shipping, which the Houthis claimed responsibility for, risks further escalating regional tensions and widening the current conflict, potentially drawing Yemen deeper into the broader regional crisis.
He warned that any further hostilities in Yemen would undermine prospects for peace and could trigger severe economic, humanitarian, and environmental consequences across the region and beyond.
The UN chief also stressed the need to fully restore freedom of international navigation through the Bab al-Mandab Strait and surrounding waters.
