Yemeni Ambassador Says Houthi Militia Advances Iran's Regional Agenda
[24/07/2026 02:41]
GENEVA-SABA

Yemen's Ambassador to Switzerland Dr. Ali Mujawar held talks on Friday with Head of the Middle East and North Africa Division at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Monica Schmutz Kirgöz on the latest political, security, and humanitarian developments in Yemen, regional issues, and prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Mujawar praised the strong relationship between Yemen and Switzerland, expressing appreciation for Switzerland's support for peace initiatives, humanitarian assistance, and the United Nations' efforts to implement Security Council resolutions on Yemen.

He reaffirmed that the Yemeni government, under the leadership of the Presidential Leadership Council, remains firmly committed to achieving peace and continues to back the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy. He said those efforts continue to be undermined by the Houthi terrorist militias through military escalation and their refusal to engage constructively in the political process.

Ambassador Mujawar stressed that the Houthi militias do not represent a national movement but serve as an instrument of Iran's regional strategy. He said recent setbacks suffered by Tehran in Syria and Lebanon have prompted it to intensify support for the militia, further destabilizing Yemen, obstructing peace efforts, and increasing threats to security in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait as well as to international navigation.

Reviewing Iran's continued interference in Yemen's affairs, Ambassador Mujawar said two Iranian flights arrived at Sana'a and Hodeidah airports without the approval of Yemen's legitimate government, describing the flights as a clear violation of the country's sovereignty and international civil aviation regulations.
